Timbers looking to make it ten unbeaten...
Vancouver v Portland
Saturday, May 18th, 19:00 EDT
The Vancouver Whitecap's 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy was far from undeserved.
For the first hour the Current MLS Champions hassled and hurried the Vancouver defense but came up short time after time. Then came the Canadian fightback and a final result that took the Caps to within a single win of a playoff place in the Western Conference. The home support lapped it up, and they will now be confident of denting Portland's fine run of form, again with home advantage at BC Place.
It's just that Portland are playing rather well themselves...
The Timbers are the surprise package so far this season and go into the Vancouver clash unbeaten in their last nine games. Indeed, there only defeat to date was against Canadian opposition, the green shirts losing a tight one 2-1 against the Montreal Impact.
The Timbers' last game - a ridiculously easy 3-0 home win over Chivas USA - was full of quality soccer, delighting the huge Portland crowd. They are serious contenders this year, and could well shock the Caps on their own turf.
One thing's for sure: when these two meet there are usually goals: catch this one if you can: it could well prove to be a Saturday feast.
