Portland have surprised all and sundry so far, and sit in a very healthy third place in the Western Conference, ahead of the LA Galaxy, the San Jose Earthquakes and five others. A win here in the capital and they could end the weekend sat in second.

Different story altogether for DC United. Their tie at home to a strong Kansas outfit was impressive, but the loss of their preceding seven in a row makes their points total of five at the one third stage extremely worrying.

The Timbers come into this off a 2-2 tie in Vancouver - no mean feat - and have scored ten times in their last five games. With no away losses so far this season, they can be confident of overcoming a side with little confidence themselves. DC have only kept two clean sheets all season, and with the Timbers current record it's going to be very tough for the hosts.

Like Ying and Yang, DC come into this without a win in nine, while the Timbers haven't lost in ten.

Something's gotta give. Or has it?
