Can in-form Sturridge make the difference?
Wembley Stadium
Wednesday, 29th May, 20:00 BST
Robbie Keane has been in tremendous form for the LA Galaxy, scoring a hat-trick last time out. He can be backed at a very nice 4/1 to score anytime tonight with
This match has been long overdue; these teams not having played each other in 18 years. The long-standing rivalry between these two is obvious, especially with the crowd trouble at the last game.
On paper, England’s squad is superior to that of the Irish, with world-class talents at their disposal such as Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney, but the front line could be led by Liverpool striker, Daniel Sturridge, with the striker having hit his best ever form on Merseyside, scoring 10 goals in 13 games for the Reds.
SSS Advice: if you fancy Sturridge to score anytime this evening
have by far the biggest price available: a whopping 15/8
These players should give the Three Lions the edge over Ireland. Though, inconsistency has cost England recently with a loss to Sweden, and a draw at Montenegro. But England’s biggest problem is their lack of ability to keep possession, with Gerrard not playing due to shoulder surgery; will this lack of composure cost them in the midfield against the likes of the energetic James McCarthy?
This could force Roy Hodgson to maybe play Rooney deeper, or could he bring in Tom Cleverly or Michael Carrick to partner Frank Lampard in the central midfield role?
Ireland will come into this match as the underdogs, but I feel the visitors can perform at their best this way, when less is expected of them. Their main players are coming to the twilight of their careers but you will have to look a long way to find a finisher as good as Robbie Keane, who I expect to lead Ireland’s front-line by example in this match.
Keane should be supported by Aiden McGeady, who is a tricky winger, and who can change a game for his team if at his best: Ireland fans will hope he is tonight.
Ireland boss Trapattoni will be missing some of his top talents such as, Darren Gibson, who is in self-imposed exile, and Wes Hoolahan, who have not even been chosen for the current squad.
SSS Advice: Post-season means open play. If you fancy over 10 corners you should look no further than
who offer an enticing 11/10
